As the extreme cold hits, a few preventative tips can decrease the number of service calls on your units and help control costs during the remainder of the winter months. Using fuel from a supplier that has been pre-treated for cold weather is crucial. With the extremely cold temperatures expected in the upcoming days, PLM recommends some helpful hints to keep your units running:

• Place all units into continuous run mode and start the unit, loaded or empty to keep batteries fully charged and coolant from freezing
• Treat fuel for cold weather conditions– if you are unsure if you are using treated fuel,add anti-gel fuel treatments to your tank to prevent fuel from gelling
• Check oil, water and fuel levels daily—keep levels close to full to create less condensation
• Drain air tanks on tractor and trailer daily to help keep the system dry
